See how to create simple coloring text effect in flash 8 using the mask. You can use this text effect for some flash banner or some presentation. You don't have to use action script code to make this lesson. Using this lesson, you will also learn how to convert any layer into a mask, how to use Selection Tool (V) and much much more! Let's go!
Example:
Step 1
Create a new flash document, Take the Text Tool (T) and type any text.

Step 2
Double click on layer 1 to rename its name in text. After that, click on frame 60 and press F5 key.
Step 3
Create a new layer and name it colors.

Step 4
Using the "drag and drop" technique, move the colors layer beneath the text layer. See the picture below.

Step 5
Lock text layer, select colors layer and take the Rectangle Tool (R). In the Colors portion of the Tool panel, block the Stroke color by clicking on the little pencil tool icon and then on the small square with the red diagonal line. For Fill color choose any color. See the picture below.

Step 6
Draw a "rectangle" below the text like it is shown on the picture below.

Step 7
Duplicate that "rectangle" and after that change its color. See the picture below.

Repeat this process until you get this:

Step 8
Select the all "rectangles" and press F8 key (Convert to Symbol) to convert this "rectangles" into a Movie Clip Symbol.

Step 9
Click on frame 15 and press F6 key. Then, using the arrows key or by mouse, place the new made Movie Clip ("rectangles") on the position like it is shown on the picture below.

Step 10
Click on frame 45 and after that on frame 60 and press F6 key. While you're still on frame 60, place the Movie Clip ("rectangles") on this position:

Step 11
Right-click anywhere on the gray area between frame 1 and 15 and and then frame 45 and 60 and choose Create Motion Tween from the menu that appears.

Step 12
Select text layer and convert it to a mask by right-clicking on the text layer and selecting Mask.See the picture below.

Test your Movie (Ctrl+Enter).
